A Welcome Party for New Afghans in Canada 2023

The Afghan Paiwastoon community in Greater Toronto and the surrounding areas gathered on the evening of September 16, 2023, to honor and pay respect to their compatriots, especially the newly arrived Afghan families in Canada, in Pickering, east of Toronto. The event was a joyous gathering featuring a banquet, music, entertainment, and insightful speeches, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity. The evening saw the participation of 600 guests, including dedicated supporters of the community.

The event’s organization and stage management were led by Habib Saber Safi, a former employee of the National Radio and Television of Afghanistan, and Emal Abdullah, the head of the social services, communication, and culture committee of the Afghan Paiwastoon community. The program began with verses from the Holy Quran and the national anthems of Afghanistan and Canada, emphasizing the community’s unity and commitment to mutual cooperation. A call for solidarity among Afghans was made, highlighting the importance of collective efforts to assist those in need in both Canada and Afghanistan.

Distinguished guests at the event included Afghan writer and poet Isa Muhammad Ismat Qani, former Minister of Rural Development and Reconstruction Ehsan Zia, former Afghan Ambassador to Canada Shinkai Karakhel, writer and journalist Sadiq Tarabzai, former secretary of the Wolesi Jirga Irfanullah Irfan, and Pashtun Council Canadian President Prof. Siraj Momand. The contributions of sincere Afghan businessmen from Toronto and surrounding areas were also recognized during the event, with particular honor given to Alhaji Sharif Momin for his dedicated service and sacrifices.

The evening’s entertainment featured interactive sessions with children, musical performances by talented individuals such as Qari Sahib Maher and Ismail Tasal Sahib, and a captivating magic show by a renowned magician. The melodious tunes of Pashtun singer Emil Jan Zakheel and her friends added a festive touch, delighting guests until late into the night.

In conclusion, Hafiz Abdul Rahman Nazari, head of the community’s secretariat, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their participation and support, considering it a privilege for the community and a testament to the unity and resilience of all Afghans.
